Through fundraising efforts, the FMA is proud to be able to offer scholarships to the Foxboro Music students to further their musical education. The scholarships fall into two categories – FMA Audition Scholarships and Senior Scholarship. Scholarships can be used for summer music camps (such as Summer Youth Music School, South Shore Conservatory Summer Music Festival), Foxboro summer music programs (Summer Instrumental Music Camp, Jazz Improvisation Camp), or for private music lessons.
FMA Audition Scholarships are open to all music students from grades 5 through 11. Students audition before judges (Foxboro Music Department staff members) either with an instrument or vocally. Students in grades 7-11 must also submit an essay as parat of their application. The essays are scored by a panel of volunteers from the FMA. Scholarship recipients are awarded using the combined scores from the auditions and essays. Ususally, prizes are awarded for 1st through 5th plus several honorable mentions. The winners are announced at the Sunday Pops concert in May.
In addition, the Senior Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating senior in the music program. Applicants are required to answer a short essay question. The application process typically starts in the spring and the scholarship is awarded based entirely on a submitted essay judged by volunteers from the FMA. The winner is announced at the annual FMA Potluck Supper in late May.
Applications can be filled out and submitted online during the application period (typically beginning in March).
